Saturday Movies: G.I. Joe: Retaliation (2013)

I feel like Channing Tatum really wanted out of this series. Plus, why is Bruce Willis on the cover? He's barely in the movie enough to sell it. Anyways, the second G.I Joe though may be up a few points acting wise than the first one. The entertainment though feels like anything else that is action that has been released this year, and there is just nothing to makes waves in your mind long after watching it. Plus, it just seems to go everywhere, and the only star to be in it all the way through is Dwayne Johnson.

Summary: The G.I Joe's are fighting hard for their country until a betrayal from within the government interrupts their plans, and leaves many of their fellow men fallen. Now it's up to the ones left to root out the ones who have corrupted the government against the G.I Joe's. They also are facing a threat from their long time enemy the Cobra. They not only have to make sure they are fighting with the right people, but that they can also stop the long time enemies that are still trying to torment them.

Acting: I think Dwayne Johnson is a decent actor especially as Roadblock. He always seems very excited about where he has landed at.  The thing is the guy just looks like no one you would meet on the street. There is also Channing Tatum, who I think only appeared to tie in his character from the last movie, but strolls around for a bit as Duke. He doesn't even seem to want to be there. There is also Bruce Willis who puts his face on the screen for a few seconds here and there for the probably huge check. You also have Adrianne Palicki as Jaye, who isn't too memorable, and Byung Hun Lee who returns as Storm Shadow.

Filming:  Well you got a lot of action and more action, and that is what the movie is about. The story line though isn't what is focused on behind the director just trying to make us feel more enthralled by all the action he is putting in. I do say that the scene in the mountains with all the snow was quite beautiful and did pull me in for a few because I thought it was pulled together very well.

Plot: The plot really lacks. It's simple, but it feels like it almost doesn't exist. You also have this focus on trying to get a few huge actors to appear who really play no part than to flash their face to try to make this movie look better than the last one.  The movie picks up somewhere about midway toward the end because you seem to be curious about what will happen to Storm Shadow but that is about it.

G.I Joe: Retaliation got released outside of summer because I think someone had no confidence to compete because it can't. Especially after the first one failed to make back it's money during the summer release it did a couple of years ago. The movie provides some nice action moments, but otherwise it sort of isn't one of the best of the year though. The acting doesn't even seem all there from it in a cast that is quite top notch for this type of movie.

Rating 5 of 10.
