338 of 1001 Albums: Led Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti

I don't think I've heard as much music from a particular band on commercials, movies, and elsewhere than I have Led Zeppelin, so it's no shock as to why this many albums would be featured on the list to listen to. While there were major disruptions during the making of the album, such as a band member leaving before reuniting, the band finally was able to get out the album that unexpectedly turned into a double album for them.

"Boogie With Stu" isn't one of Led Zeppelin's more recognizable songs, but it is one of my favorite ones from the album. It has an old time piano vibe threw in, and some interesting vocals mixed in with this folk feel, which is unique and interesting. There are also some songs that are just very familiar that now give a name to that song you always hear.


"Kashmir" is one of the most recognizable tunes, and it just has a nice sound that flows in it. It's one of the songs that the band made sure to play at every concert since then. Also, Robert Plant and Jimmy Page took a total of three years to put this song together. Now that is a long time spent on a song. The album seems to really morph into different things while you listen, but still maintaining the ability to enjoy it, and find a consistent sound with the band.

Robert Plant also has very interesting vocals. The sound of his vocals just seem to be something that is widely still imitated even today. You can tell the guys work hard on pulling their music together. There is a lot of detail to instruments, and nothing gets lost in the sound of too much bass, or too much drum, or whatever. It all can be attributed.

Led Zeppelin varies enough to draw a wide audience. You have a little folkish sound, and a lot of the gritty guitar stuff that seems signature of them. Robert Plant just also has a lot of attitude when singing, which is oddly appealing. Despite the obstacles the album still had to overcome it's probably one of the better ones you will hear, and the strongest of their collection.
