Book Review: Jeremy Camp's I Still Believe

Jeremy Camp's story is no secret, but it doesn't change the impact his memoir will have when you read it. Camp is already a powerful singer, and he shares in candidness the ups and downs of his own life. This isn't a memoir about music, but more so how Camp has incorporated worship apart of his life even when he feels like he doesn't want to. With a few pictures from his life added into the book you find a very heartfelt, and powerful story that is heightened by your listening interest in Jeremy Camp.

Jeremy Camp is currently a musician, husband, and father, but at one point his life looked a lot different. Growing up in poverty could have caused him to feel everything was working against him, but his parents' examples of how they lived their new found faith set him up to be largely motivated in the future to pursue his dream of leading worship with music. His testimony was further impact upon losing his first wife to cancer who he had planned his future with unknowing that she would pass away only a few months after marriage. Camp has a strong message that he conveys with a lot of emotion and inspiration in his new revised book.


As someone who has always listened to Camp's music there seems to be a different vibe to it especially with his first album Stay. You can tell it's a guy journeying to heal as it has really low points, and happier sounds to the album. While you might be familiar with his story there is something about this book that really brings it out even to be more powerful than hearing it in passing. He captures the faith of his parents, Melissa, and Adie, who he is now married to in a way that shows how these have impacted him as a person.

At first when you begin the novel you wonder how much you will have to hear about what is considered his trouble youth. While not good, I've certainly heard of people who wandered way more off the path than the drinking and partying underage. On top of that drinking of age isn't considered bad by all. Considering his parents' story it's understandable as to why he might think different. Once you get to his story after high school is when it truly begins to capture you.

His wife Melissa has a very inspiring story, and to read it has a deep impact. He expresses the hardship of that time very well.  For those expecting more of a music memoir it isn't really that. While his passion for music is incorporated into the story Jeremy Camp turns it into more of something that praises God with his story. He's very good about being honest about how he felt in his darker moments when he struggled a bit with his faith.

If you're a fan of Jeremy Camp the book will be sure to interest you. I think even for someone just looking for a Christian memoir to read then it can be a great read too. Jeremy Camp has a story to share that is inspirational to read, and once you're done reading you feel encouraged. Knowing what he has been through and seeing how he is utilizing in his life is very encouraging.
