Saturday Movies: Ocean's Eleven (2001)

Steven Soderberg directs this very catchy action comedy. The acting is good, and most notably the movie has a lot of very vivid and memorable colors throughout. The story is very straightforward, which is welcomed, and you can tell the cast enjoys each other company. The movie works well together as all the parts of it come together to create a vibe and atmosphere you won't forget.

Danny Ocean is released from prison, and is already planning his next heist. He finds his wife, Tessa, has began dating a man while he was away for four years that heads a casino in Vegas. Terry Benedict has a lot of money stowed away in his hotel, and Ocean wants to accomplish taking it from him, even though that isn't what he really wants. He rounds up eleven accomplices though that he trusts to carry off the robbery. This includes Frank as well as Reuben who has something against Terry anyways. Everyone he rounds up though has a certain assignment and place they are entrusted with, but when Frank finds out Danny's true intent for the robbery he questions the whole heist.



With a very busy weekend that didn't let up I never got to finish this blog, so it's published very late today. Anyways, Ocean's Eleven was a surprising movie to find because I had different expectations about how I would feel about it. The acting is good though, and the way it is shot is unique and interesting. The director knows how to create mood and energy with his shots. What most might notice is the all star cast that this movie contains.

George Clooney's character, Danny, is who it all centers around, but Frank (Brad Pitt) almost seems an equal companion in the plan they are making to rob the casino of Terry Benedict. Both of the guys work well together, and you can tell they are friends in real life as well just because of how they interact in the movie. They almost don't even seem to be anyone else but themselves. Julie Roberts is Tess, and she gives her enough charm and likability to stand out from the huge cast of men. Each actor though seems to give a personality to their character that sticks around with you after watching the movie though.

Ocean's Eleven has a sophisticated feel about it, but it is also fun to watch. The ending is the only part that might have could have been more final without the addition at the end. Another thing that was noticeable about the movie was that there was no prominent bad guy, so almost everyone feels like a likable character, but they also have enough flaws to keep them all almost unlikable too.
