Wednesday Movie Night: Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009)

Continuing on with my Wes Anderson trend here, I just recently watched Fantastic Mr. Fox. This now leaves me seeing every movie from Anderson except the one coming out this March! Anyways, this movie was way better than I expected. In the animation world Anderson is able to explore a lot of what makes him so great with live animation. The color, the dialogue, and the story are all top notch here, and since it is animation it still leaves a little room for kids to enjoy as well. Though this movie is clearly intended for adults. It's one of the few Anderson movies you can might watch with your family though.

Summary: Mr. Fox and Mrs. Fox begin their relationship as farm raiders, but when Mrs. Fox becomes pregnant Mr. Fox believes it is time to get serious and settle down with his wife and now beginning family. Settling down works for twelve fox years until Mr. Fox begins to get an itch for raiding farms again, but this time his farm raiding will cost him more than just putting his own self in danger, but his family and his neighborhood.

Wednesday Movie Night: Bottle Rocket (1996)

I enjoy Wes Anderson movie, and I can't think of a one I haven't liked. The stories may not always be the best plotted or fascinating, but there is something about the characters, color, and music that always strikes me as memorable no matter which movie it is. For a first movie Anderson was already showing many of his filming patterns as well, though as the movie goes on it becomes clearly more defined the style he would take on. Anderson's style has become one of the distinctive in the film world, and Bottle Rocket is a little more relaxed but still Anderson.

Summary: Dignan, Anthony and Future Man are aspiring thieves. They start with minor robberies like Anthony's mother's house. They want to take on larger crimes though. The bookstore doesn't t prove to be too lucrative of a robbery once they spend all their money up at a motel. For Anthony though this motel stay will be worth it as he meets a housekeeper that he falls for. Dignan though convinces them that they must go back into burglary, and he sets them up with con-man, Mr Henry, who will help them set up a bigger heist.

Wednesday Movie Night: The Darjeeling Limited (2007)

To usually like a Wes Anderson movie you're already someone who holds a streak of liking many of his movies. Just because you loved The Royal Tenenbaums doesn't mean you'll end up loving another though like The Life Aquatic. The Darjeeling Limited is much in this category. You might have to be a big Wes Anderson fan to enjoy it. The visuals, the setting, the characters, they're all very artsy and very much Wes Anderson.

Summary: Francis, Peter, and Jack have lost their father, and afters years of estrangement they reunite at the persistence of Francis who is going through a spiritual awakening after a car wreck. The other two brothers are going through significant changes of their own, and with no close family to confide in it seems they are all in a bit of silence crisis.Jack though finds potential in healing by falling for a girl he meets on the train, and they all soon discover that they could be reunited with their mother. This makes their trip a switch from being one where they are seeking a certain spirituality to one where they coming to terms with their lost and reuniting as a family.

184 of 1001 Movies: Rushmore (1998)

Wes Anderson is sort of the leader of quirky, independent comedy. Though I've already reviewed Rushmore once here, I thought I really needed to go back and watch it again. I am very glad I did, because the movie was much better the second time around, and it seemed to just resonate more with me. Max isn't really the most lovable character there is, but I think he embodies a lot about people that sort of is something a viewer can relate to. His ambitious nature are easy to admire, but not how he goes about it, and it's easy to relate to the idea that he has grown comfortable at his school and his ability to lead there that he doesn't want to leave.

Summary: Max is a student at Rushmore. His grades are suffering, but he is know for being apart of the most activities there, and even creating a lot of them. His involvement is great, but it doesn't mean so much to the president of the school when his grades are suffering and he can't help him maintain staying there any longer. One of the speakers at the school, Herman Blume, takes notice of Max though and takes him under his wing, when the two begin vying for the affection of the same woman, Rosemary Cross.
